Rangers are closing in on a deal to sign French-born Algerian wide midfielder Salim Kerkar.
The 23-year-old has impressed on trial at Ibrox and his representatives are currently in talks with the Glasgow side to complete a move.
“We’ve had him in for a few weeks now,” said Rangers manager Walter Smith after his side’s 4-0 win over Dundee United. “Hopefully, when we sit down with his people, we can arrange to have him at the club for a little while.”
Kerkra spent three seasons with French outfit Gueugnon in the Championat. He is the younger brother of the Algeria international Karim Kerkar and is also friends with Rangers centre-back Madjid Bougherra.
The 33-year-old Karim, presently with Emirates Club in the UAE Football League, had spells with Manchester City, Clyde and Dundee United. He rejected moves to St Mirren and St Johnstone before returning to the Middle East.
Asked if anything had been signed, Smith replied: “Not so far.”
