A GREAT CHANCE BLOWN

Rangers got off to a flying start in yesterday’s Old Firm Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox. Jamie Ness put The Gers ahead after 2 minutes with a fantastic shot from 25 yards and then Steven Davis rattled the cross bar in 4 minutes.

It looked as though Rangers were on their way to a great victory, but Commons equalised in 15 minutes. The match really swung in Rangers favour in the 40th minute when Rangers were awarded a penalty and The Mhanky Mhob’s goalie was sent off for bringing down Stevie Naismith in the box after a superb ball through from Nikica Jelavic.

Steven Whittaker put the ball away well from the spot kick and it looked as if Rangers were well in command of the tie. However, if ever there was a game of 2 halves this was it.

Instead of pressing home their advantage in the 2nd half, Rangers sat back and Brown equalised in the 64th minute with Stevie Naismith being sent off shortly afterwards for diving in the box. It was a very poor performance in the 2nd half after such a promising start and The Gers just hung on for the draw, which means a replay on 2nd of March at The Piggery. The winner will play Inverness in the next round.

As well as compounding the fixture backlog, it’s bad news for us in Dubai as we were scheduled to play Dundee United on Thursday the 3rd, which would have made a nice change from playing on school nights.
