THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL – GOOD OR BAD?

There was a good crowd in Centre Circle for the game last night and the consensus was that Thursday night football is definitely a good thing and should be encouraged. It’s Friday morning now and I think I have discovered the downside – the morning after!!

Anyway, on to  the match – it was a repeat of the latest Old Firm game, i.e. we had it in the bag and threw it away by sitting back and letting them come at us.

The first half wasn’t pretty to watch – The Gers had much of the play and squandered a load of good chances to go ahead. It was a relief to see half-time and very good to see that most people had read their press pack and easily answered the half-time questions – although one muppet (you know who you are) started giving me a hard time about the mistakes in it, so I must point out I only give you the link, contrary to popular belief I don’t write the content!

The 2nd half was looking much the same, with Rangers well on top but unable to make the breakthrough; until the 66th minute when Stevie Whittaker put us ahead with a great header from a corner kick. This should have been the first of many, but we threw away a number of good chances and eventually let a very poor Sporting team back into the game and inevitably they got the equaliser in the 88th minute.

The result makes next weeks visit to Lisbon a tough one – but judging by last night we can certainly go there and win as long as we take our chances this time. If nothing else its an excuse for more Thursday night football, probably followed by another rough Friday morning!

Next up is another big game – it’s back to the SPL and The Beggars at The Piggery. The match kicks-off on Sunday at 4.30 and will be shown live in Centre Circle as always.
