Rangers legend Sandy Jardine will make an emotional return to Ibrox on Saturday and will unfurl the Division 3 flag ahead of the Brechin game.
Traditionally the unfurling of championship winning flags goes to a Rangers Chairman but Chief Executive Craig Mather and Manager Ally McCoist are both delighted to give Sandy the honour and he will undoubtedly receive a well-earned ovation from supporters at the game.
Sandy is on the road to recovery following recent cancer treatment and he has been sorely missed by his colleagues at Ibrox and Murray Park in recent months.
Supporters paid their own tribute to the Light Blues legend with a minute of applause at games last season and Sandy will be back at Ibrox this weekend for the first league game of the season.
He said: “I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support from supporters and staff at Rangers in recent months and I am looking forward to returning to Ibrox for the Brechin game.
“As someone who appreciates the rich history and traditions of this club, it will be a great honour and privilege for me to unfurl a championship flag in front of a packed Ibrox and I have to say I was touched when first approached to fulfil that duty.
“I have so many great memories of playing at Ibrox but to be given the honour of unfurling the league flag is something really special and I will never forget it.
“This great institution is determined to return to the top of Scottish football and I am excited about seeing the new-look team in the season ahead.
“My friends and family have given me so much support this year and I would like to thank them and all the fans and club staff who have been a source of comfort in difficult times.”
The match kicks-off at 3.45pm local time in Dubai and will be shown live in Centre Circle.
