Football Fundraiser Invitation

The Sharjah Wanderers “Old Boys” are inviting you to join one or both of our Seven a Side over 30s’ fundraising football tournament on Friday, April 11th 2014 and over 16’s football tounament on Friday 25th April.

Matthew Owen Myerscough the son of our Sharjah Wanderers “Old Boys” Team captain was born here in the UAE on 8th December 2011 with congenital Deafness. After realising that he was in fact deaf, he was taken to Al Zahra Hospital in Sharjah to begin what has now been a long journey with their Audiology department. During his initial assessment it was discovered that he also has Waardenburg Syndrome as he has one very blue eye and the other eye is half blue/brown. Matthew can hear loud claps or bangs but to anything else he has no response. As a result of this, Matthew Owen Myerscough requires to have a Cochlear Implant. The operation to give Matthew this cochlear implant cost 150,000AED which is not covered by any insurance company here or in the UK. Sadly, not a single local charity will entertain the applications for sponsorship but the cost fee of AED 150,000 proves time and again to be a dead end.
Dr. Fahim Tadros the operating surgeon and head of the ENT Department at Al Zahra Hospital and a prominent member of the Sharjah Wanderers Sports Club for many years, has already generously committed to wave his fees for Matthews operation.
For more information on the events that we are organizing please join us at the new dedicated Facebook group were we will be posting pictures/videos and updates of our fundraising activities.
